Company History

Murray Guard, Inc. was established in 1967 by Jackson, Tennessee attorney, state representative and humanitarian Roger Murray, Jr.

In an industry where training and background screening should have been paramount, Murray found that little of either was required of contract security guards prior to assignment, making them the subject of ridicule at the facilities where they worked. Thus, Murray set out to create a company that would erase long-standing stereotypes of contract security. Through his experience as both an attorney and a humanitarian, Murray learned that individuals must respect themselves and maintain a positive self-image in order to earn the respect of others. This philosophy formed the foundation of Murray Guard, Inc.

First, Murray began recruiting team members who were experienced in professional motivation and employee relations. At the time, this was a completely new concept in the industry and Murray was convinced that a higher level of professionalism could be attained by instilling a sense of pride and respect in each officer. To achieve this, Murray mandated thorough background screening, issued new and professionally designed uniforms to all officers, and instituted a corporate employee relations program that recognized officers for professionalism and performance. This program is still in existence today.

Murray Guard operates under a reverse pyramid structure where security officers, who are the heart of our business, are at the top of the pyramid. Branch management and corporate staff are structured below to serve and support security officers and the needs of our clients.
